PAINTED HAY BALES
Painted hay bales are a fun way to incorporate your superhero theme on the ground. At Cornbelly's we painted 10+ bales featuring a variety of superhero symbols, etc. and placed them near our maze entrance.
character appearances
To add to the excitement of the theme, we incorporated character appearances every day. We bought a Bat Girl and Super Girl costume at a local Halloween supply shop and used regular employees for those appearances, then hired out other superheroes to make weekly appearances from a local character company.

QUESTIONS
Q: Do I need to get permission to feature a celebrity, company logo or movie in my maze design?
A: Though each state regulates its own laws on this subject, in most cases the answer is yes. Anytime you feature a celebrity, movie, etc. in a way that portrays their likeness and implies they may have approved of or endorsed your maze, you should have their permission. An exception would be any works that have entered public domain. All works first published or released before January 1, 1927, have lost their copyright protection. In the same manner, each January 1 will result in literature, movies and other works released 96 years earlier entering the public domain. If selecting a public domain theme, only imagery from the original work of art can be used and not any later reproductions for movies, etc.
Another exception to needing permission is for political figures. Because they are elected public officials, you could feature them in your maze design without obtaining their permission.
